As to the dueling metal, I can only postulate that at certain rolling speed ranges, the Saab is indeed a fast car; perhaps faster where it counts in these various encounters. Then, there is the surprise factor. Mustang drivers and others, once bitten by a Saab, will perhaps be more ready the next time.
I know in my Saab magazine, there was a 0-60 contest professionally run at high altitude where the Aero beat out high-powered BMW and Volvo contestants with no huff and puff up at altitude. I also know that depending on the density and coolness of the air, the turbo can do some wonderfully surprising things.
I was personally surprised to find a new Nissan Maxima wasn't able to "do better" in one encounter I had with my base automatic. Then again, with a Solara, I was held to a draw with a few passengers aboard the Saab and only the driver in the Solara. OTOH, a BMW X-5 could not keep up with me going up a long hill here in Calgary even though he had 3 more exhaust outlets than I did.
I'm no 'boy racer', standing stop, 1/4 miler. I am a speed range selector and like to attain most favourable turbo range speeds before the other guy realizes what's up.
