Han,
People who complain about turbos owned some of Chrysler's first turbo efforts! Or they drive some of the first generation turbo equipped diesel engines. Those old ones were oil cooled and so ran much hotter. If you didn't idle them down for a few minutes they would still be blazing hot when you turned off the engine. Without the flow of cooling/lubricating oil, the oil still in the body of the turbo would fry (called coking) and leave a black, varnish-like residue.
A year or so of repeated treatment like this causes the turbo to become full of this coke and limits oil flow to the bearings and seals between chambers. Result = bearing failure. Thus the bad rap.
Now, with more efficient design and a highly improved cooling arrangement (water cooling), this doesn't really happen. I live about a mile from any major roads so my engine has been run below 2500 rpms for at least 3 minutes prior to shutting off and I consider this to be sufficient.
If you're going to fret over buying a Saab, forget the engine/turbo. This should be lowest on your list.
