Jane- I am a female who just bought at 2001 SE 5spd slvr 2months ago. It has been fun to drive. I wanted an affordable 5spd sport sedan type vehicle...and Saab is about the only one that offers it..and everybody has a BMW it seems. Saab is a unique bodystyle and people either love it or find it ugly...I let a kid here at work drive it..he thinks it's ugly..but he found the turbo up the freeway ramp to be a blast.
I had a Volvo and liked that Swedish reliability/solidity/understated elegance. I like Euro and cannot see myself ever buying a Japanese car-to me they have no soul.

But yes..my main driver was looks and that untouchable,product identity,marketing type thing. If I wanted economy/value..I'd get a Ford Focus or something. I have since ordered the Sport Exhaust out of the catalog to make it sound a little growlier, had the windows tinted in back..and added Saab 'turbo' plate holders. It looks sweet.
I paid $18k out the door in CA 2months ago w/32k miles on it from a dealer..it has a year more warranty. If you go to a dealer ..try and get them to throw something in..I regret not holding out for ...like a car cover or something- Good Luck!
