I have used PDR and it works. The results were not perfect, but required a well trained eye to find the location of the original dent. (a well trained eye would spot the repaint as well...) The guy I used would not charge if he could not get the dent out. Perhaps you can find someone with a similar deal.
He had mentioned that hail damage was a great candidate for PDR. You might as well bring the car in for a quote.

I do not advise repainting the car. Try PDR first...
