Saab says due for 5K oil change

I got a note from my service manager yesterday saying that I'm due for my 5000 mile oil change and that I might want to consider making an appointment - they provided a coupon for an allignement check and the oil change. Now my '01 base has 5600 miles on it; I switched to synthetic at 1500 and plan on changing again this weekend and every 5k there after.
Here is my concern...
When I purchased my car in March I wound up getting a lady friend of mine at work to who was also interested in the 9-3 to buy at the same time from the same dealer - with the two cars it worked out to be a great deal. Anyway, about a month ago I asked her how things were going, if she was keeping up with the car and if she had got her oil chaged yet. She told me that she called the service manager to ask about an oil change, as she was at 5k, and he inisted that she waited until 10k before she came in. She then informed him that she hadn't had the oil changed yet and would feel more comfortable if it was done. He then proceeded to talk her out of it stating something like *you paid for good money for a car that was designed such that the oil needed to be changed only every 10K*.
As a result, she is at 7500 miles without an oil change. Meanwhile, I'm getting a note (albeit a form letter) from the same service manager that says it might be a good time to change at 5K. Two conflicting stories from the same dealership.
