Hi,
I want to believe that I'm pretty good with parsing language (got
near perfect, high 700s, on verbal sections of both SAT and GRE),
and I'm Asian.
I've seen the context in which the term "rice" has been used, and
I do not believe that it is racist. It may have started as racist,
first used by Harley Davidson owners to refer to Japanese bicycles
as "rice-burners".
However, the context in which the term "rice" is used here is simply
to describe modifications to an automobile which do not improve
performance but give the appearance of improved performance. One example
is rear-spoilers on a FWD car with no engine modifications. All this
does is create extra drag and actually prevent the automobile from
reaching speeds where wings would be necessary. In addition, wings
should be on the end of the car which drives the car so that the wheels
providing the power get added traction.
If the people who use the term "rice" actually mean it to be racist,
I would be first to object to such usage of the term.
We all make fun of Chevy Camaro as "The last stand of the Mullet". So,
why can't we take a little jab in return?
thanks
Jae
