Shwan,
1. Check out Budd's in Oakville, have heard many good things about them on this board. Dealer is very important with Saabs. Any Canadian Saab dealer will also sell Saturns and Saabs.
2. Buy used and save some cash... Saabs depreciate too fast. Buy a used or lease return 9-3; I've heard some minor grumbling on this board about the '99 9-3 (1999 was the first year for the 9-3) so a 2000 or 2001 may be preferable.
3. If you must have new don't be afraid to bargain. The redesigned 9-3 is coming out as a 2003 model so expect major incentives on the 2002 9-3 as dealers try to clear their lot. In particular, there is a "20th anniversary of Saab turbocharging" 2002 that has a lot of free extras.
4. I would not buy a 2003 9-3; never buy a car in the first year of the production run.
5. Dealer service is expensive; about $100 in Canada for each service. There's a major service at around 35,000 kilometers that runs about $600.
6. The Saab 900 / 9-3 does not rank highly for reliability with independent reviewers but I've been driving my 900 since 1998 and found few problems. Mostly just minor battery replacements, tire replacements, some small repairs under warranty. It still runs like a charm and I'm still getting speeding tickets ;-)
7. Go Saab. Volvos are boring and do you really want to trust your life to a VW when you're on the 401 at 120 k ?
Good luck!
Mike
