...since the sliding armrest is bulkier than the original lid, it is a little more cumbersome to flip it back to expose the coin holder and cup holder. But I still wouldn't go back. I got the sliding armrest for Christmas 2000 and love it! The storage compartment will not hold much, but you can fit a pair of sunglasses and a few other things in there.
As David and Derek said, it is a "snap" to install...literally. The original lid pivots on two plastic pins that stick out from the sides of the center console. The hinges on the original lid look like ear-flaps that cover the pins. Just carefully pry one of the flaps outward until it pops off the pin and then you can remove the flap from the pin on the other side. The sliding armrest has similar flaps with holes that snap over the pins.
