I have a 2000 base at that started intermittantly smoking upon startup at about 29,000 miles. Both cold and warm, but not all the time. Dealer replaced under warranty and included free oil change as a "precautionary action". I presume this was the idea that some of the turbo oil seal material had made it into the engine. This same car had the "banjo-bolt-recall" back in early 2000. I think this was the oil line connection to the turbo? At the time I think they classified it as a "emmisions related recall". But now I'm wondering if alot of these cars experience insufficient turbo lubrication/cooling and we are beginning to see the effects down the road. I thought that the days of turbos going bad had died back inthe late 80's. Anyone have any ideas.
PS Yes, I will probably pass on buying this car when the lease it up.
