Window was "3/36" - GMPP not Saab Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Thu, 23 May 2002 16:21:55 In Reply to: Can I buy an extended warrenty from Saab?, Dan S., Wed, 22 May 2002 13:36:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am unaware if Saab sells their own warranty, I don't beleive they do. General Motors offers an excellent warranty, the General Motors Protection Plan. An awful lot of extended warranties are dealer backed. They look official, but getting claims paid can be spotty. A GMPP Major Guard in my experience is the best warranty availible, but the window for extending the factory warranty is "3/36". Even though the Saab (or Cadillac) warranties run "4/50" the window for extending them as NEW CAR warranties from the "in service date" is limited to "3/36" Up until then you take a 4/50 warranty and make it a 6/75 or 7/100, beginning from when the car was new. After the 3/36 window you can only buy a used car warranty in terms of 12/12, 24/24, 36/36 from the purchase date of the warranty.
Does your local Saab guy also do Cadillac? Or check with your closest GM dealer and double check and see if the "3/36" window is correct. My F&I guy just walked by and told me with a Cadillac you can buy extended new car warranty up to the 4/50 original limit so GM may have changed their policy on the window for renewal.
