Got my K&N air filter ... some questions (Dean?)

So I went over to my local Advance Auto shop and picked up a new K&N filter for my '99 SE HOT. Upon Dean's suggestion, I asked for the 33-2663. But they didn't have any in stock. None at the warehouse either, so I'd have to wait about 5 days to order it.
They did, however, have the 33-2166 which K&N lists as the OEM replacement for my 4236030 Saab paper element. So I figured I'd give it a try. Two questions:
1) The 33-2166 seems to fit just fine. I compared the dimensions before installing, they seem identical. The only difference is that the paper element is thicker than the K&N, but the rubber seal parts of both are identical. Am I missing something?
2) I read some things on the box about certain cars needing the filter to be attached to the top (ie., grooved) part of the airbox first, then gently held in place while putting the airbox cover back on. But this one seemed to just drop right in. The airbox snapped close afterwards with finger pressure. So I'm guessing everything is fine.
The car seems to run fine and I *think* the turbo spools up more quickly now. Also a bit more life in the upper RPMs perhaps.
Thanks all,
Nemo
