HELP...stuck ball joint nut!!... Posted by MikeMc [Email] (#2446) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MikeMc) on Fri, 12 Jul 2002 00:02:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, I've just aborted a job for the night so I am able to drive in the morning.
I'm just finishing-up installing new springs and shocks (Eibach/Koni). 3 corners are done. The 4th is stubborn.
I have a stuck ball joint nut, and need some fresh ideas to release it.
It's the front lower ball joint, attaching to the strut. The nut does not move when torqued, rather the whole joint spins on the taper. (...yes, not the usual problem...)
I tried a jack under the joint, lifting the car off the jack stand to get maximum load compressing the joint. No luck. Still spinning. I have a 3-arm puller I used to pop the top steering arm joint, but have no room to fasten it.
I just ran out of ideas, so I put it all back together.
I'll drive a bit with the car cock-eyed this way. I don't believe it is unsafe now, just unwise.
Anyone any tips or tricks?
My last resort will be the dealer......
Thanks,
Mike
