I've done it. The ones I've done were burned & closed in one session. I don't know if the player is "multi-read", but I've got other stereo components that aren't.
I suspect that the concern is the CD-R media (not the player) is not so tolerant of the high temperatures inside the car when its parked. Gee, I remember when Maxell & TDK both said you coulnd't leave cassette tapes in the car out in the sun.
CD-RW's are written in a different format anyway, I'd guess they don't work.
