Mobil1 and now Engine is cold!

So I just had my oil changed over to mobil 1, and it being winter I had them put in 5w30. Yesterday was the first cold day around here (about 8degrees F) and my car, even after running for 3 hours, barely crept above the L on the temp gauge. The heat coming out of the vents wasn't as warm as I think it should be. I had to drive the car for about 15 miles before the air started to warm up at all.
Should I go back to 10w30.... would this have even caused this, or do I have another problem?
99 9-3 with 38k.
thanks,
rob.
