Twice, I had fan switch problems. The first one was the fan went to full speed and stayed there until I pulled the panel and disconnected the connector from the switch. It turned out that the case of the switch cracked and it shorted across. I put in a new one and all was well for about a week. Then the next problem was that new switch cracked also, and the fan would then not come on. I could put sone pressure on the switch and the fan would come on. So yes, two bad switches in just a week or so. This indeed may be your problem. IIRC, the switch was only about $20.
