you're having trouble with your drivers side mirror, so lean all the way to the door and look in the mirror. Adjust the mirror so that you can barely see the side of the car. Go back into your normal position, and you should notice that your blind spot is much smaller. To test this out, let someone pass you while driving. You should notice the progression from the rear view to side view to peripheral vision without ever losing sight of the car passing you.
