The "old" 9-3 was a much better car than the 900 it replaced. The 9-5 is a better car than the 9000 it replaced.
Saabs offer great value to consumers, and the styling is pretty good as well.
The new 9-3SS is in my mind still somewhat disappointing. Saab seems to be slipping a bit lately. The decision (foisted on Saab by GM) to use a platform for the 9-3SS which won't support a performance-oriented AWD system hurts tremendously. Saab needs to get its act together quickly.
When the lease on my '02 Aero runs out in in March '05, I'm not sure Saab will have a car in its range that I would buy. I won't buy a FWD 9-3SS. Besides the FWD problem, there are too many shortcomings in the interior of the car. I won't buy a 9-5 if it hasn't been redesigned, and if the 9-5 has been redesigned, it probably won't have a performance variant--so I wouldn't buy a "9-5SS" either.
