I read a post somewhere that made a lot of sense to me. It said that in luxury cars it is the whole package. You can't just compare straight acceleration, nowadays a Honda Accord has got 240HP. So you have to look at what is included in your package. The Saab 9-3 has:

-All the safety features STANDARD. Traction control, Anti-lock brakes, Brake Force Distribution, Mechanical Brake Assist (I think this is cool), Air bags up the wazoo, and OnStar.

-It also has a pretty rigid suspension, even for the base.

-4 Year, 50K warranty vs. 3/36 for your average Japanese car

-3 Year, 36K maintenance. This must be factored in as well

-Then you get 0% financing or rebate. I have yet seen a 0% offer for a Japanese car.

-You won't find 10 of the same cars in your parking lot.
