I noticed that I'm a little low on power steering fluid. ( I'm a little worried about where it's going as I see no leaks. The level was just enough to coat about the bottom 1/4 inch of the dip-stick/cap.) So I started looking around town for Pentosin fluid and found that the only place I could get it was at my local SAAB dealership. Here's the scary part: They don't stock it. So I asked them what they use in the repair area and they said they use regular old GM power steering fluid. I told them that was not the proper fluid and they told me they'd call SAAB and get back to me. They called back and, of course, said that SAAB said to use only the Pentosin fluid. JUST LIKE THE MANUAL SAYS!!! I have not verifed with my service records yet, but now I'm thinking I've got a mixture of Pentosin from the factory and GM from the service dept. (I have to believe it would be very small amount of GM stuff (if any) because if they did add it, it would have just been a "top off"...)

So I bought a liter (or quart or whatever) of the Pentosin fluid. I guess I was planning on draining what's in the resevoire with a turkey baster and replacing it with all Pentosin. Then drive for a while, and repeat.

My questions are:

What damage would be done if they DID use GM fluid to top off power steering fluid?

Is there a better way of doig a more complete drain of the power steerinfg fluid?

As Always, Thanks in Advance,

SR
