I remember asking the same question when I was considering a newer Saab (I've had a couple of older ones.) For several years, my main vehicle has been a Nissan truck, which is so reliable it's scary. 140K miles, and so far only an alternator - about $300 - and a windshield washer motor - $22, I replaced it myself. This is a work truck and used hard, but it still has a ton of miles left and never lets me down.
It was pointed out to me that the reason one sees people bringing up concerns is because this is a place to come ASK about various problems - which can skew your perception and make it appear these cars are plagued with problems.
I can't address specific reliability issues because I'm not that knowlegable a gearhead, but I can tell you that in January I bought a 2000 Viggen and utterly adore it. No problems yet, but even if it turns out to be a little more costly to maintain than my truck - which it will be, no doubt, WHO CARES!? It's worth it.
Try finding one that still has some warranty left, or look into the extended warranty. That will give you peace of mind. They are wonderful cars. My next one will be an older 900 convertible. :)
