Theory about rapid rotor wear, appreciate feedback

I am about to replace brakes all around at 45K miles for the first time, mixed city and highway driving. Both front and rear rotors are incredibly worn with the front pads 90% gone.
I am surprized at the rate of rotor wear, particularly the rear. I don't think it is normal wear due to the pads, but instead is due to rapid rust buildup. I have noticed that after sitting a few days the Saab rotors are incredibly rusted and make grinding noises for a while. My other car, an Accord with 250K miles has original rotors and barely shows rust after sitting much longer.
The theory is that the Saab material rusts quickly and that the "wear" is the rust being removed by the pads each time the car is used after sitting. This would also explain the rapid rate of rotor wear at the rear.
Appreciate any feedback on this idea.
Any recommendations for other aftermarket rotors such as Brembo and do they last longer or rust less than the Saab parts?
Mitch
