Car Alarm Problem

I own a 1999 93. I locked my car after a drive when the alarm decided to go off. No amount of locking and unlocking the car could shut it up. As soon as I put the keys in the ignition, the alarm would stop ringing. And as soon as I took my key out, it would start off again. After many tries, the car alarm mysteriously went back to normal and works as it should now.
Have any of you faced this problem before? I don't want the alarm to go off in the middle of the night and get shot at. I hope this is just a freak case. I'd like some inputs before I get this checked by a mechanic. Thanks in advance.
