In February, I took my car to the dealer for the 10,000 mile service. At that time, the dealer replaced the SID because it was defective, and the temperature guage was not working. As soon as I left the dealer, the Time for Service indicator came on. When I spoke to the dealer, they recommended to press clear once, then press clear until CLEAR and then SERVICE come on, and the problem should go away. Well six months later, and the SID still had the same problem. When I took the car in for an oil change, I mentioned the issue, and the dealer indicated that they reset the SID, but that the TIME FOR SERVICE indicator may come on again due to a glitch with the SIDS. No kidding, left the lot, and almost everytime that I start the car, I have to clear the TIME FOR SERVICE message.
QUESTION: Is this something that is covered by warranty, and am I entitled to request a new SID? (I purchased the car last September 2002, and could not find anything in the handbook that exactly states what is covered other than "parts and accessories.)
FM RADIO -- I have had very poor radio reception since I purchased the car. Again, in February, when I mentioned it to the dealer, and requested that they check the antenna, they checked the antenna and said "oh yes, the antenna ground was loose, and we fixed it." Got in the car, and the radio reception was terrible. During my last visit at the dealer, I mentioned that the radio problem is still there. They checked and stated that the antenna is bent, and it would cost $150.00 for me to replace it. I asked how it could have got bent, and that they were the last people to touch it, and they said, well, the wind could have bent the head. (I had a Saab 900 for 10 years, and the antenna never had a problem.) When I seem irritated, they offered to change the radio, but the reception is still pretty poor.
QUESTION: Is the antenna typically covered, or is this something that I should agree to pay for?
Any suggestions and or advice would be greatly appreciated.
