I live in Germany and drive a 2003 US-spec dolphin gray/parcment 9-3ss. I keep hearing all these stories about the 9-3 selling through the roof, but must confess that I have seen very few on the road here in Germany (a grand total of 4 since getting the car in April). I was in SoCal a few weeks ago and didn't see any on the road, but maybe I just missed them. But I digress ...
I have almost 10,000 miles on the car now. It's been great and never ceases to get complements. In July I was in Salzburg, Austria with my parents. We stayed in a small hotel on a tiny one-way street that spits you out into a pedestrian area near a major intersection. Well, while I was waiting with my father through an unusually long light and pedestrians were streaming buy, a mid-50's man waiting to cross the street standing right outside the right passengers door turns and regards the car very deliberately. My father and I thought it a little strange. But then the guy takes a step back, crosses his arms, but a a hand under his chin, and begins an in-depth study of my vehicle. He walks directly in front of the car, stops about a foot off my front grill, and does the same. Then, to complete the circuit, walks around to the rear of the drivers side, all the while not taking his eyes of the car. He then slowly begins nodding his head up and down and resumes his post at the crosswalk, just in time for the light to change.
Not sure if any one else has had this sort of experience, but it left me cracking up.
