I like my Viggen. Before the Viggen, I had no interest in non-classic-style Saabs, though I count myself as a Saab fanatic.
I like the interior. Awesomely comfy Seats, granite dash, leather wheel.
Any years should be fine. 1999 wheels had different stronger paint on the wheels less susceptible to flaking/wear. While better wheel paint, it can't be repainted to match I'm told. All wheels are soft and will eventually be bent at some point and taken out of service. I have 4 9-5 aero wheels on my Viggen as I bent two Viggen rims.
No sunroof problems on mine.
Put new spark plugs in every year. Check the archives on here and the performance BBS for ngk plug recommenations for different types of driving.
brake pads and rotors are good for about 30,000 (+/- 5000) miles.
I had the center muffler removed, as the engine was too quiet inside the car. This has the same effect as ordering the Saab sport exhaust.
floor mats are probably the same quality as your '98 - a step down from the classic 900s, but nothing that can't be replaced for $100.
Someday, I'll get the viggen rescue kit for it. I don't really thrash the car, It's just a good car to drive around quickly in. Get a radar detector like the V1. I thrash my 88 900T instead.
resale value for 99/00 viggens should be low, so you should be able to find some good deals.
