Having trouble removing rear rotor due to e-brake

I tried (for a second time) to remove my rear rotors for replacement. I removed the retaining scew and the rotor rotates freely on the hub, but just won't come completely out. I think the previous person must have adjusted the e-brake improperly and now the inside of the rotors are grooved, complicating removal!
I was hoping to back-off the shoes on the e-brake by turning the adjustment wheel/sprocket, but can't seem to get enough light to find it. Is it at 12 o'clock? If so, how far down do I need tilt my screwdriver?
If anyone has any suggestions or pics of the rear brakes with the rotor removed, that would be great!
