Just read a winter tire compare which included the WR Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sun, 21 Dec 2003 12:13:23 In Reply to: Nokian WR's, and/or full winter rubber?, Steeleye, Fri, 19 Dec 2003 06:51:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It got mediocre grades on ice, and performed poorly in wet, dry and snow. This was compared to a variety of other winter tires.
Link to the test is below. It was done by a german auto organisation. Regarding the results, I recommend you not pay too much attention to the number of "stars" (final score, "ADAC empfehlung), because they rate dry performance the same as ice, snow etc. This means that even though a tire might be fantastic in snow, ice and wet, it'll get dinged in the final result because it doesn't perform like a sports tire in the dry.
Average dry performance means it would be quite fine for even pretty sporty driving and plenty good for safe braking etc, so not that important.
Average ice, snow or wet performance on the other hand is not good, because in those conditions you need every edge you can get. So look at the individual grades each tire got in the different categories. *Lower* number equals higher grade in the link (0.6 is best score possible and 5.5 the worst).
It's in german. "Trocken" means dry, "Nass" is wet. "Schnee" and "Eis" should be self-explanatory :)
