I couldn't find anything specific to this job, so here is my attempt at explaining it:
1994 900SE 2.5L V6
Removal + installation of new A/C Pulley & Clutch
Compressor Model #SS121DN2 (SEIKO) R134A
Stubby compressor w/ Triangular front plate
Tools needed:
- A/C Pulley puller (check your local loan-a-tool store)
- O-ring pliers
- slim prybar or sturdy screwdriver
- metric wrenches / socket set
- allen wrenches
REMOVAL:
1. Remove Serpentine belt.
2. Remove plastic shielding and air-intake water catch basin inside front fender. Some of these metric six-point screws are pretty hard to get at. (some 8mm, some 6mm)
3. Unplug 12V power supply to A/C clutch. Connector is easily accessible along front of compressor.
4. Remove center allen bolt. (I mounted the clutch pulley puller to the triangular plate for leverage to get keep the pulley from spinning.)
5. Wedge prybar between clutch driver (outer plate) and pulley (the allen bolt is the only this holding it on, but the clearances are pretty tight, so you kinda have to wiggle it out.) and remove clutch driver. Do not lose the foam insert that surrounds the center shaft from the compressor!
6. Find the o-ring that is holding the pulley on. Remove with special o-ring pliers.
7. Mount pulley puller to pulley and spacer to the center shaft coming out of the compressor. Turn puller handle until pulley comes off.
8. Find the next o-ring that is holding the electronic clutch in place. This is the larger of the two o-rings. Remove with special o-ring pliers.
9. Confirm that the power supply connector has been removed and wiggle the clutch free.
INSTALLATION:
1. Install new clutch. Line up raised bulb to opeing in compressor.
2. Install o-ring to lock clutch in place.
3. Lubricate and install pulley and included/attached ball bearing.
4. Install o-ring to lock pulley in place. Pulley should spin freely, but securely (no wobble)
5. Install foam insert.
6. Install clutch driver. Driver should spin freely of pulley.
7. Install allen bolt. Again, the clutch plate spins freely, so you will need a tool to keep it from spinning. (I mis-used the pulley puller again.)
*** If you are replacing the original belt, you will need to break the motor mount loose at this stage to install a new serpentine belt!
8. Reinstall the plastic shielding and air-intake water catch basin.
9. Reconnect the 12V power supply to the A/C clutch.
10. Reinstall serpentine belt / tension.
You should be set with that. If your mechanic says you need a new compressor at approx $1100 installed, be sure it isn't the clutch first. I got the whole compressor with a used clutch from a salvage yard for $48. BIG price difference, obviously.
Hope this is of use to anyone in this predicament.
Feel free to add/modify/elaborate.
