AC, thermostat and engine coolant temp sensor Posted by vic [Email] (#2192) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vic) on Mon, 30 May 2005 20:18:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi,
Engine temp needle on my 99 9-3 (base) is stuck low. No AC at all most of the time, except for a couple of occasions when stuck in traffic (the needle went up and AC kicked in).
I did a search and read posts on the topic, it seems the consensus was - engine coolant temp sensor went bad. My problem is I am not sure where the sensor is located. Is that on the right side of engine block (when facing the engine)close to thermostat and below and to the left to where upper radiator hose connects to engine block? The sensor has 2 black wires. I measured resistance between the wires when engine was hot - a few MOhms.
If I replace the sensor only will the needle return to normal position? Shall I replace thermostat as well?
Thanks a lot,
Vic
