That is, seperate ignition coils for each spark plug. In the case of Saab, the ignition coils are mounted directly over the spark plugs with no spark plug wire neede to make the connection. The 2003-on 9-3 has DI, but has 4 seperate independent coil packs (one for each spark plug) instead of the early DI Cassette which has all four coil packs integrated into one assembly.
