Wow, that's alot.
I recently put a new clutch in my Porsche 911. I think the clutch package was $199 mail order. Not really much to install, but with 911's, you have to drop the whole engine and trans. Then you just unbolt and rebolt it in.
Your Saab is front wheel drive, so I'm guessing you only need drop the trans. I'm not suggesting you do this yourself, as my older 911 is easy to work on. But I am suggesting that you can look-up on-line how much the clutch kit is. Then maybe someone here can give us an idea of how much labor is involved (hours). From this, you should be able to get an idea of what is a fair charge. I'm guessing that you don't really need a Saab dealership to replace the clutch - which should save maybe 50% in labor costs.
I have an 02 Viggen, and am considering the extended factory warranty once my lease is up.
