Stiff = worn out....... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Thu, 29 Jul 2004 18:18:15 In Reply to: 2001 9-3 -- Stiff clutch, KeithB, Tue, 27 Jul 2004 11:48:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Modern clutches often don't slip as they wear out. As they wear more and more of the pressure plate spring are used to take up the slack and the pedal gets stiff.
Or as Yak mentions, the pressure plate is bad.
Get back to the dealer ASAP as you'll likely need the good graces of the dealer to get it fixed. The CPO warranty specifies that the "clutch disc" is a wear item and not covered, but a defective pressure plate should be covered.
Likely the dealer will want you to authorize the expense of the teardown and sometimes that's an unavoidable SOP (standard operating procedure), but for a month old CPO car you might appeal to them. A clutch can be burned up in just a few miles by a negligent owner so you'll have to impress on them your skill and wear habits with your previous clutches and Saabs. If denied, you might have to escalate your complaint up a level from the service advisor to the service manager, service director, used car manager or general manager, be polite but insistent, but get back to the dealer ASAP and see what they say.
Good luck and report back.
