Is it a base or SE ? The stereo in a Base may be easier to be upgraded.
I have a 01 9-3 base. I heard that 2001 was the first year Saab combined the key and the remote into a single unit. Many people said the remote distance was bad (yes, it is). If I come from the passenger side, I get a better range.
Make sure you do not get any white/blue smoke when you start the car in the morning; otherwise, you need to "push" the dealer to check the turbo and or head gasket.
