Rams were leaking oil, and the motor broke a gear tooth. I wrote Saab asking for assistance, car had 30,000 miles and was only 4 1/2 years old. (1999 9-3 SE) They covered the parts, but would do no more. I found it ridiculous that such a young car had such a major component fail. Tried to write to Ms. Kelly-Ennis, but they wouldn't budge. I'd write them directly and tell them you want assistance with the fix. It sounds like they may have an ongoing issue with the top failing in the 1999's. I'd also make a formal complaint to the NHTSA. Go to their website. If you read NINES magazine, you may see a letter in there soon detailing my top problem.
I think if enough folks are having this problem with their 1999's convertible top, we should all approach Saab to get them to cover it. I for one wasn't happy with the almost $2000 price tag, even with them covering parts.
