The Solara is probably OK if you can tolerate the manual tonneau cover. For what it costs, that car should have an automatic tonneau cover. Since the only place you ever seen the manual cover in place is in a showroom and you never see one out on the road, it's reasonable to assume that it's a pain to take on and off and store. That means your headliner will probably be exposed to high wind and sun damage. The 2001 Solaras I tested had horrible cowl shake and vibration; perhaps the new ones are better. I wouldn't go near a Volvo or Audi for reliability reasons -- you might go from the frying pan to the fire. Don't rule out the new Saab convertible. Lease it if you're not confident in it. The DI issue has apparently been addressed and the rigidity is much improved. I had one as a loaner and it was great. If you want a true four seat convertible with room for two or even three sets of golf clubs, it's hard to beat the Saab. The domestics and the Solara don't measure up, and the BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, and Audi are either more expensive, less reliable, or both. Enjoy your shopping!
