I bought a new AutoZone battery less than 1 year ago, and it's giving me trouble (among other things).
Right now, I'm fighting the battle of the "rough idle" problem where the car will shudder and sometimes stall out when i'm parked or coming up to a red-light. My mechanic had tried everything (plugs, DI, injectors, MAP, IAC, TB, hoses, etc.) and we're pretty stumped. I was actually on the road quite a bit when it started acting up...i drove from Ft. Lauderdale Florida up to Jacksonville and then back to Tampa. Drove fine on the hwy, but would just start studdering at idle or slowing down. When i finally coerced it back into my driveway, I shut it off and tried to tackle it the next morning. Only problem...dead battery. I don't know why it died, but I got it jumped, it ran for about 30 seconds, and that's about when my AC compressor started smoking. So, i shut it off, called AAA, and had it towed to my mechanic.
Like i said, he's tried everything under the sun to fix the idle, but in the process, the battery keeps losing its charge. He had to jump it a couple of times. I came by to pick up the battery and took it to AutoZone and they tested it. Everything turned out OK. It was charging fine and held its charge fine. I just don't know what in the world is making it die overnight. Actually, i think overnight it's ok, but if it sits for more than that, it'll be dead.
i'm going later this week to a certified saab garage and they're going to update the software on my ECU, thinking that may solve the rough idle problem. But as far as the dead battery, i have no idea. Really, I just want to get it back up to par so I can either trade it in (don't want to take my trade-in to the dealer on a flat-bed) or if it's mechanically sound enough, private sale it. Can anyone comment on this?
