I went with a viggen mostly because of the interior & exterior. The added torque is fun but mostly the much better seats are what I wanted. I have found the opposite with the SE seats, lacking in back support & non-existant lateral support. Like someone else stated possibly the lumbar was turned upp all the way on the SE & the viggen's seats were the opposite... who knows :) My brotehr has a 98 SET & my parents have a 9-3 convert & they feel completely different themn my viggen, not nearly as much fun to drive!
I also do not think the ride is that stiff on the Viggen's, you do feel the road but it is not unfomfortable.
When I was car shopping it was either a aero wagon 5 speed or viggen 5dr. The wagons were about impossible to find & also a LOT more $$$ thus I went with a viggen. I have taken my stock viggen to drivers schools a few time & it performs very well agains't any year M3!
