Brian's '03 takes 6L of oil & PREMIUM full syn is REQUIRED if he's following the Oil Life System monitor. Your '99 (like mine) takes only 4L of oil & semi-syn is "suggested." I'd never run anything less than a premium, ACEA A3-rated full syn in a Saab turbo. I think anything between Mobil 1's 0W-40 & Amsoil's 20W-50 are best for these engines, as these formulas tend to have better oil film durability & additive protection.
I've been running intervals of 10k miles in my '99, & I'll be sending in my 5W-40 5k mile Used Oil Analysis sample this weekend. I didn't like the results from the M1 0W-40 I was running last time, so I decided to give the M1 5W-40 a try. If I'm still not happy after I see the 10k mile results, I'll try mixing with 50% M1 15W-50.
