My usual rant about tires:
You ability to stop and do accident avoidance, or just to stay on the road on a curve are determined by your tires.
High mile tires are hard and have poor grip wet or dry and your stopping distance varies accordingly. And a harder tire has more summer seasons to age harden and these are particularily dangerous in cold weather in the rain or just damp.
Tires that have high wear ratings are simply dangerous in many situations and are false economy when weighed against life, limb and property damage.
High performance tires simply stop faster, wet or dry. ABS does not change that equation, and changes to brake pads or rotors are also of little consequence, as the braking system can only apply forces to the road that the tire contact patch can handle.
In many cases, high wear rated tires with lots of tread left need to be tossed out when they age harden and slide all over the place. So what was the economy in that tire purchase decision?
Do not look only at the life cycle costs of the tires alone. Droving is a dangerous activity and should not be a contact sport.
