Q.-What do you get when you have over 115 inches of snow (to date this winter in Rochester, NY), add an equal amount of rock salt sprinkled liberally on the roads, and mix it with a '99 9-3???
A.-A really crappy parking brake!
For those out there who are in similar environmental situations, what can you suggest to return the p-brake to an operable condition??? I've had the car for 3 winters, and each late fall I have the cables, etc. "serviced" by an indy. It ALWAYS hangs up when the temp has been over 32 deg with moisture (rain/wet snow), and then the temp drops below freezing. It hangs up so bad that one or both rear wheels will just slide on the snow.
I have a friend who used to service VW's who volunteered to work on it. What individual parts should he look at to correct the problem.
Based on the age and mileage (67k) should I replace the cable(s)?
Thanks in advance for your input, guys. I am really annoyed with this. (I thought I was done with this sort of thing when I donated my '87 Dodge Daytona Turbo to a charity and bought the Saab-Uuuugh!)
