I second the AutoRX recommendation. I did the 'high mileage' regimen (see the AutoRx website for details), which involves 2 treatments. Junk doesn't immediately appear in the oil, and I was surprised when just a little junk showed up in the first phase treatment. But then more stuff came out during the 1st rinse phase. And holy moses, you should have seen the junk that came out of the car after the second treatment and rinse cycle--and I had been using synthetici oil for the entire life of the car (over 182,000 miles). Steady diet of Amsoil, Mobil 1, and a couple of Royal Purple runs.

I can't beging to tell you how smooth the engine is now. Also using FP-60 in the fuel (see bobistheoilguy.com for details).

Unfortunately, I changed the valve cover gaskets BEFORE I did these treatments, or I could have taken some "before" pictures!.

I think the above vehicle could use 3 treatments. And get lots of cheap (or should I say) inexpensive filters. Depending on what year vehicle this is, you should upsize the filter to at least the old-style PF13 size (purolator L14670 or PL14670), of if room permits, go all the way with a Ford motorcraft FLIA filter (purolator 3001). All of these filters have 3/4-16 threads with bypass features similar to the Mann OEM filter, but are much larger. You'll need that FL1A-sized filter for the treatment phases and the rinse phases.

BTW, I could actually feel when the oil filter started to clog. I thought something was wrong and the light bulb went off--changed the filter and had no problems after that.

I have no fiduciary interest or relationship with AutoRX; just a member of Saabnet and Bobistheoilguy.com.

Of course, using AutoRX has ended up causing me a lot of work!!! I no longer have an excuse to buy a new car, so I have to DIY replace shocks, rotors and brakes, etc. Guess I have to keep the car another 100,000 miles or so.
