OK,
So I hit the 50K mile mark in my Saab without a hitch or hiccup. But 2000 miles later it flips out & starts to idle super rough, is missing & then when I try to restart it, it wont fire up.
After a tow & $750 in repairs I've got a brand new DI cassette. A repair I was figuring I would have to do eventually, just was hoping to make it further than 2000 miles out of warranty.
10 miles of driving later, the check engine light comes back on. I bring it back into the shop & they are saying that there are a ton of codes in the computer & that there's a chance the catalytic converter is shot, they then kindly add that it's a VERY expensive repair & remind me I'm out of warranty. They were going to continue troubleshooting & call me tomorrow.
My question to you all, is it probable that the cat would suddenly go at almost the same time my DI cass went? Or are they totally barking up the wrong tree here & should they be looking at a wiring harness or ECU maybe (expensive I know, but I dont want to keep replacing parts). Should it turn out to be the cat, can I drive the car with a bad cat for a while until I can afford a repair? Also, if it needs replacement, are there any aftermarket performance cats that would be worth spending the $$ on so I'm not paying a lot for stock parts?
Thanks so much!
BJE
