The 0W30 is not huring your MPGs. There was a report of MPGs on 0W40 being beter that the 10W30. I had a similar experience with Delvac 5W40 providing better MPGs than M1 10W30.
Cold does reduce the MPGs on the T5, but not so much on the T7. With cold weather you need to worry about the tires not having enough pressure. Dragging brakes will hurt. Side and head winds have a large effect. A roof rack will hurt MPGs too. So synthetic W40 oils can and do deliver better MPGs that W30 oils. There is more to friction that viscosity issues.
Clear the SID at speed on the highway when the engine and trany have warmed up. That will remove the warmup costs from the readings that you get. That will allow you to compare MPGs better with different oils etc.
Nice mods, so you are running stock boost?
