Normal expenses post-warranty Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Fri, 13 May 2005 19:48:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What is a reasonable amount of $$ to spend on UNSCHEDULED maintenance on a 2001 SE convertible between 50K and 100 K miles?
I am close to the end of my warranty. During the past year, I have had at least 11 separate warranty issues. All were resolved, and my experiences at the two dealers I have used have been terrific. However, if the car had not been under warranty, I would have been out at least $2,000 or $3,000. Since cars generally require more work as they get older, I am concerned about the feasibility of keeping this car. No other cars have ever given me such problems; this is my first Saab. What can I expect down the road? Info from '99 and '00 owners might be most informative.
The issues I have had just during the past 12 months include: replace bubbled tonneau cover, replace delaminated stering wheel, replace purge valve, replace SID (2nd time), replace broken seat cable on passenger side, replace DI cassette (left me dead around 45K), correct premature wear on top, replace license plate light bulbs, correct fuel leak (recall), fix airbag malfunction, replace hood emblem.
I am the original owner and this car has been meticulously maintained every step of the way by good dealers. Thus, I wonder if there's really any truth to the old theory "Take care of your Saab and it will take care of you". I really like this car a lot, so it's very disappointing to think that it may already be nearing the point where its repair costs approach the cost of a new car payment. Any opinions on this are appreciated.
