Need Advice - too many repairs

I have a 1995 900SE convertible. I love this car, but I've put way too much money into it over the years. It's got about 130K miles on it. I put in a new transmission last year (~$2K).
Now I've got a problem with hesitation. I thought it might be some electronic ignition problems. Buy my local dealer (whom I pretty much trust) is saying that it's problem with oil being blown back into the turbo, which has ruined the turbo. He's saying problems with the engine might be the cause of the blown oil. If it's the turbo, it'll be ~$1200 to fix. If it's the engine causing the turbo problem, he recommends junking. And he says he needs $500 to check the engine (pull out the oil pan, check for shavings, etc.).
I don't want to put another $1200 into this car. I like the car but it's a money pit. And I don't even want to put $500 to find out whether it has big problems or REALLY big problems.
So I need some advice. What are my options? This mechanic will buy it for parts, but I have to imagine that he'll give me a low ball offer.
Any suggestions from the board?
Thanks in advance.
