I noticed lately my rpms would dip every so slightly and sort of pulse at idle. 2 Weeks later they are plunging at idle intermittently. RPMs try to drop to what looks to be about 800 then stumble (vibrates and dash and headlights dim a tad) and shoot back to about 1000.
You can now tell the car is idling erratically from a good ten feet away, whereas before you had to be sitting in it and only could feel it.
This is a 01 9-3 T7 so I don't have an IAC to clean...believe me i looked for it for about a half hour =P.
I removed the delivery pipe and cleaned above and below the butterfly plate in the TB. There was a bit of sooting in there and a bit of boogery-like crust about an inch below the Butterfly. My engine was extremely upset about the thimbel sized amount of carb cleaner it had to suck in upon restart!! I also managed to knock one of those small boogery-like flakes loose and it dropped into the TB and was irretrevieable (what can ya do? I figure it's soluable at least).
So my cleaning did nothing to help idle, and I may have done some more harm if the booger-like thing clogs up anything.
My poor Saab has been nursing techron concentrate all day also without any luck.
Could I be completely off the mark with the fuel system hypothesis on this?
Could it be the idler pulley or serp belt or something? Neither sound abnormal and look acceptable, but are due for a change at 77k miles.
I have to drive this car 3000 miles in one month, and I can't afford much because of that unavoidable upcoming move. I would prefer it if Saaby did not die/stall/explode/or incinerate my on this upcoming migration.
Help!
