Well it finally happened, my thermostat got stuck this afternoon and the car started to overheat. I was able to cool the car pretty quickly, turning on the heat, and made it safely home. I removed the upper rad hose and was able to remove the thermostat housing after moving the ICE ? bracket away from the two housing bolts. I didn't remove the thermostat support bracket, not sure why that's even there. The thermostat was pretty clean with the exception of a large chunk of crud stuck in the front. I had a replacement thermostat on hand a wahler with a new gasket. The wahler thermostat is the same size as the original waxstat but seems to have some orientation issues. The upper air bleed valve does line up like the original thermostat?? The original stat sits in horizontally with the valve up and the wahler sits vertically.Anyway after spending almost two hours trying to replace the thermostat housing, I gave up due to darkness. I tried tightening the bolts together, doing the top first, and doing the lower first. This seems like a fairly simple job and I not sure what went wrong. The car is sitting and I hope when it's cool tomorrow not to have the same problem.
My car is a 96 900s 2.3 na with 110,000 miles
Thanks
