I've got a '99 with ~83000 miles. I'm the original owner. The only things I've ever had to replace are the brakes at ~50K miles ($300+ for the fronts alone) and tires every 20K or so (expect $600 for a good set). I've never had a component fail on me in service, though I suspect I've got an a/c stepper motor about to go (~$200 or so). I've had all of my service done at dealers of various quality, and they can get expensive, but so can any dealer.
I echo the others who said be sure to drive one before you buy. The car has some unique driving and handling traits. Not bad, just unique. And keep in mind that there aren't too many performance cars out there that can haul a refrigerator in the back :)
