Reminds me of damaged plugs my Dad had in his 46 Buick. He liked to set the timing right at pinging. The resulting detonation under heavy load and summer heat broke pieces of the top ring land off. The pieces then bounced around in the combustion chamber until the plug gap was smashed shut.
Take a look thru the spark plug hole to see is going on. A bore scope is the best way to see in there.
