Steering Wheel Shaking = Worn Belt?

I have been trying to resolve my steering wheel shaking issue on my 99 9-3 for over 6 months. It started at about 87K miles. I have had the inner driver/tripod bearings checked, had new tires and steel wheels put on, and several wheel balancing performed. I also had a rotor machined as was worn unevenly. All of these have greatly improved the shimmy I get (especially the rotor). However, the shakes never truly left. It is most apparent under acceleration OR deacceleration (such as coasting up incline) between 50-75mph.
This past weekend I replaced my serpentine belt as I figured it is better to be proactive on such an item as a failure could put me in a tough situation. The belt showed normal wear with alot of lateral cracks along the toothed side.
Now...the interesting observation....my wheel shaking is all but gone!!!! VERY Interesting side effect. Perhaps the worn belt created an unwanted resonance under engine load (accel or deaccel) that is being picked up by the suspension? It will be great if this lasts!!!!
So for $50 for a OEM belt + 40min procedure, your wheel shake might disappear too.
Let me know if I am crazy or if others have seen such a positive side affect of a belt replacement.
